The Do's and Don'ts of Software Process Improvement

Everybody can recite the standard organizational change management and model-based process improvement lessons learned - get senior management sponsorship, treat process improvement like a project, and demonstrate the benefits as you go. But these platitudes are non-prescriptive and are as difficult to interpret within an organizational context as they are to implement.

This presentation provides practical advice that will help the attendees jump-start their process improvement initiative and help them avoid the pitfalls that have bogged down many that have gone before. Blending real world examples, practical advice, and humorous analogies, the presenter will assist participants in thinking more robustly about their approach to model-based quality initiatives, and will give them some proven approaches that they can implement in relatively short order.

About the Speaker:

Pat O'Toole is a Principal Consultant at Process Assessment, Consulting & Training where he provides a variety of services to his process improvement clients. Pat is one of most active CBA IPI and SCAMPI lead assessors, and has led assessments spanning all maturity levels, including the largest and most complex Level 5 assessment ever conducted. With over 20 years of software development, project management, and consulting experience, Pat works with all levels of management and SEPGs in establishing, evaluating, and sustaining their process improvement initiatives. He is the author of the popular series, "Do's and Don'ts of Software Process Improvement."
