The annual Software Process Symposium will be held in Edison , New Jersey , Monday and Tuesday, October 13-14, 2008.  If you have ideas or practical experience that you would like to share with the software development community, we would like to hear from you. This is becoming the premier conference on software process improvement in the North East area attracting over 150 participants and over 30 speakers. 

 

In addition to a full day of presentations, the symposium will host a day of tutorials prior to the day of the presentations. We encourage you to complete and submit a presentation abstract and/or a tutorial outline for consideration. To download an MS Word version of this call for abstract please click here.

 

Presentation topics will range from general process improvement activities, to CMMI specific implementation, to cultural and organizational changes.  This symposium provides excellent exposure to practitioners in the field. One complimentary registration per tutorial and presentation delivered will be provided. The complimentary registration will be for the presentation portion of the symposium.

 

The general presentations will be approximately 40 minutes in length. The tutorials will be 3.25 hours in length and potentially expanded to 6.5 hours depending on the topic.

Q: Who is the typical Software Process Symposium conference attendee?

A: The Software Process Symposium attracts over 150 attendees who are seeking information about software process improvement (SPI) tools & techniques, implementing an SPI program in their business, or looking for information on new advancements in the area of SPI.

 

Q: What kind of sessions will be selected for the symposium?

A: Sessions about personal experience, practical information, and new advancements related to SPI in businesses (real case examples are a plus!).

Q: How much time do you have to deliver the presentation and tutorials?

A: The regular sessions are scheduled for 40 minutes. Half-day tutorials would typically include 3.25 hours of class time including exercises. Full-day tutorials would include 6.5 hours of class time.

Submit your abstract via email to the conference chair, Dr. George Mitwasi at gmitwasi@spsymposium.com. For questions please contact us at 732-750-0020 Ext. 111. When submitting your abstract, please include the following information:

1.      Author's name, title, company and contact information including mailing address, phone number, fax number, and email address

2.      Presentation Title

3.      Topic level (beginning, intermediate, or advanced)

4.      Target Audience

5.      Provide a statement highlighting what the attendees will learn

6.      Presentation Abstract - Limit to 100 words; used for marketing and committee evaluation. 

7.      Supplementary information (optional) 

8.      Your Biography, Experience and Qualifications used for Speaker Introductions at Symposium - Limit to 75 words

9.      Indicate whether you will be willing to sign a release letter to allow the symposium to record your presentation to make it available on its website for a wider audience.

10.  Indicate whether or not you agree to be a backup speaker

When submitting the brochure abstract please keep in mind that these abstract will be used in the marketing of the conference and your presentation and thus we advise you to include a summary of the following items in the abstract when possible:

-    A background of the problem or topic (be specific if possible, e.g., what processes are addressed, what type of environment you have or worked with, what were the symptoms of the problem, what are the issue, etc)

-    What items will you cover in the presentation and/or how did you solved the problem at hand

-    What benefits will the attendees will gain from your presentation

Half-day Tutorial Submission Instructions:

Submit your tutorial outline via email to conference chair, Dr. George Mitwasi at gmitwasi@spsymposium.com. Tutorials must not promote any service or product. Preference will be given to proposals that include the actual training materials. For questions please contact us at 732-750-0020 Ext. 111. When submitting your proposal, please include the following information:

1.      Trainer's name, title, company and contact information including mailing address, phone number, fax number, and email address

2.      Tutorial Title

3.      Topic level (beginning, intermediate, or advanced)

4.      Target Audience

5.      Can this tutorial be expanded to a full-day?
