This Month’s Meeting:

Program Manager:   Gordon Dosher -

Topic: Project Management – Discipline or Role

Speaker: Geof Lory - GTD Consulting, LLC

Abstract:

The discipline of project management is often considered to be the exclusive domain of project managers. Project Manager as an official title within a team or organization reinforces this concept. However, the basic disciplines of project management can be embedded into all contributors on a project such that each team member's activities include the practices of project management at the level appropriate for their respective tasks.

Most project team members currently exhibit some level of project management discipline in their jobs, however it is typically informal or ad hoc. By making project management disciplines more explicit and aligning project management practices with the other specific disciplines of team members, develops ownership, accountability, teamwork and leadership.

This increased appreciation for the mystical skills of the official project manager will ultimately enhance team productivity while creating a culture of empowerment, transparency and trust.

Speaker's Bio:

Brett Peterson is a Partner for GTD Consulting, LLC, a consulting and training firm based in St. Paul Minnesota that focuses on IT project management.  Geof focuses on helping organizations develop best practices for successful project delivery with a special emphasis on the people and process aspects of project management.
