This Month’s Meeting:

Program Manager:  Dick Hedger -

Topic: Extreme Programming: From Theory to Practice

Speaker: Brett Peterson - VisionShare Inc.

Abstract:

Kent Beck describes the theory of Extreme Programming (XP) succinctly in his book "Extreme Programming Explained."  But how do the principles described by Beck work out in practice?  This talk briefly walks through the principles of XP, and then describes in detail how XP practices evolved at two Twin Cities companies over six years.  Concrete examples of influential success factors such as tools, personalities, values, and work environment are presented along with a practical list of lessons learned.

Speaker's Bio:

Brett Peterson is Chief Architect and Vice President of Development for VisionShare, Inc, a healthcare secure connectivity company. Previously he held Chief Architect, team lead, and senior software developer positions with ObjectFX, a geospatial visualization company. Prior to ObjectFX Brett held senior development roles with Platinum Technology specializing in electronic software distribution and asset management products. He also spent several years with IBM developing PL and C++ compilers targeting the IBM AS/400 product line. Brett holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Computer Science from Iowa State University.
