Topic:  Formalization of Requirements Engineering / Management - Determining the Right Approach for your Organization

Speaker:  Milinda Rambel Stone, Board of Pensions/ELCA

Abstract:    

This presentation focuses on the formalized discipline of Requirements Engineering & Management. More specifically, formalization of requirements management provides the most cost effective way of reducing development costs and improving product quality.  Attention is given to Industry Best Practices and also discusses the current implementation of Requirements Engineering & Management.  Techniques and lesson learned on implementing Requirements Engineering will be shared.  

Kathy Bassin's Bio:

Milinda Rambel Stone is an experienced Software Engineer who has implemented Software Process Improvement initiatives in engineering, healthcare, education, and financial industries. With a MS in Software Engineering from the University of Minnesota and 13 years of industry expertise in all phases of web-based and object-oriented project development, she has developed and implemented a Software Methodologies for Product Development and Professional Services organizations across public and private sectors. Her work spans strategic design and tactical implementation in software process, architecture, program & project management, requirements engineering/management and quality assurance. Her commitment to industry best practices has resulted in an increased efficiency in systems utilization, more effective development processes, and an enhanced ability for clients to communicate inter-organizationally between business and IT domains.  Milinda has significant experiencing teaching and implementing the Rational Unified Process. She is currently implementing the Rational Unified Process for the Board of Pensions/ELCA and is also building/formalizing the Requirements Engineering & Management discipline.

Twin-SPIN Mission Statement:
The Twin-SPIN software process improvement network  (SPIN) is a regional organization established in January of 1996 as a   forum for the free and open exchange of software process improvement   experiences and ideas. Representatives from industry, government, academia, other professional organizations, and consultants are welcome to participate. Our mission is to help sustain commitment and enhance skills in the area of software process improvement through an active program of networking and mutual support. The organization strives to serve as a source of educational and experiential information for its members, other SPIN organizations, and the general community of software professionals.
